Ask A Question:

Is it better to bag my lawn clippings or let them lay on the lawn?
Try bagging them every other time you cut the grass. Grass clippings (provided that you haven't let the stand of grass get overly long) will help to replace the nitrogen in the soil if you let it lay when you mow your lawn. The grass clippings lay up against the root system of the growing grass & helps it retain moisture. Be careful because letting thick, wet grass lay on your lawn instead of bagging it can result in some lawn disease & mold.

My lawn sprouts mushrooms right after watering or a rain.. what can I do?
There is likely wood or some organic matter that is decomposing in those areas & the rain is increasing the activity. You could take a shoel to those area, push the shovel as deep as you can & wobble the handle back & forth to open the soil up, this will allow the gasses to escape & should speed up the break down of that organic matter

Our Trumpet tree is dropping leaves & not blooming. I cleard away a suffoccating vine/ will it come back lush as last year?
Arborist Russ Talley suggests that you read the following for Turmpet plant. Please inspect the leaves that have fallen off to determine if they have any marking that would indicate insect problems or if there is any white powdery substance. If this contines to be a problem & the Turmpet isn't coming back as nicely as you had hoped, it might be time to check your soil PH. The Trumpet prefers a PH of 5.5-7.5. As noted in the article following, if there are any leaves with a white powder... Read More >>

What are grub worms & how can I prevent them from damaging my lawn?

Other signs of grubs are sudden wilt of the grass, indicating the roots are being attacked. Also, if you notice patches of dying grass in your lawn even when there has been adequate water, this could be a sign that you have grubs. Please check out the articles section of this Members Only website & look at the article on grubs. If y... Read More >>

What is aeration & how will it benefit my lawn?
For a more detailed answer, please check out the articles section of this web site.

In short, aeration is the process of punching small holes all over your lawn in order to help it breath. When the lawn can breath better, it will be able to absorb nutrients & water better thus giving you a better, thicker, more healthy lawn.

We offer aeration service. Call Hansen's if you have any additional questions on this service, we would be happy to help you!

What is aeration?
To put it simply, aeration is punching a bunch of holes in your lawn so that it can breath easier. Aeration removes little soil cores from your lawn & deposits them above the thatch of the lawn. These cores are 2"-3" deep & only about a half inch in diameter. In heavily compacted soils with clay content- such as we have here in our area- this allows the ground to take a "deep breath" & better utilize nutrients & water. What is the best time of day to water my lawn?
Always water early in the morning so that the grass has time to dry during the day. You will avoid fungus growth on your lawn if you water early in the morning.

What is the best time of year to seed my lawn?
Best choices in the Fall are September & October. In the Spring, March & early April are best. Temperatures are cooler & these months there is more rainfall. These factors should all contribute to the seeding being a success.
