Our Solution? Plant Health Care
The objective of Plant Health Care (PHC) is to maintain the health and vigor of your trees and shrubs by gaining a clear understanding of your landscape and preventing issues before they arise. The Certified Arborists and PHC Specialists at Hansen’s Tree Service will offer preventative and therapeutic plant health care programs that include pest management options that are both environmentally sensitive and cost-effective.
Routine Monitoring
Our PHC Specialists will schedule visits to assess all trees and shrubs on your property-scouting for pests, diseases, and other issues that can affect your landscape.
Pest Management
Our Certified Arborists and PHC Specialists will prescribe treatments on an as-needed basis, specific to your needs. Our various pest management solutions are carefully timed to be most effective when diseases and pests are known to flourish. This nips potential problems in the bud or prevents them from worsening.
What Does Hansen’s PHC Program Cover?
Every homeowner and landscape is different when it comes to plant health care. That’s why we tailor our PHC programs to each landscape’s needs. With Hansen’s PHC Program, we provide an initial evaluation of your soil, trees, and shrubs. We then use that evaluation to suggest plans of action to better care for your landscape.
These plans usually involve monitoring the performance of your trees and shrubs on an annual or more frequent basis, depending on your landscape’s size, diversity, and goals. Our team will also prescribe a plan of action, including preventative and therapeutic treatments, to the homeowner to find the best solution. Hansen’s will also work with any budget.

Insects
Insects can be both harmful and beneficial to your trees and shrubs. The important part is knowing the difference between them and how to take care of them if they are an issue.
A Few Things About Insects:
- An insect problem generally comes secondary to problems brought on by other stressors like drought, damage, etc.
- Insects are largely beneficial. They help with pollination and can act as predators to more harmful species.
- When you kill insects without regard for what they do or why they might be there, it can be detrimental to a tree’s health.
Types Of Insects:
Insects are divided into four categories according to the way they feed. Their characteristic patterns of damage can help with a diagnosis for treatment.
- Chewing insects: Eats plant tissue such as leaves, flowers, buds, roots, and twigs.
- Boring insects: Feeds beneath the bark of a tree as larvae. They can also kill twigs and leaves through adult feeding.
- Sucking insects: Inserts their beak into the tissues of leaves, twigs, branches, flowers, or fruit.
- Gall-making insects: Will cause abnormal growths to develop on twigs, leaves, and flowers of trees and shrubs.
All these insects can be harmful to your trees and shrubs and should be taken care of immediately by a Certified Arborist.
Diseases
Disease comes in many forms and may do very little damage or can quickly kill a plant in one season.
Types Of Diseases:
Diseases require a plant host, a suitable environment, and a pathogen (or causal agent) such as a fungus, bacteria, virus, mycoplasma, or nematode. Many diseases attack our landscape plants, many of which require a trained eye to diagnose and prescribe treatments. Fungal organisms that lead to wood decay may require a tree risk assessment by one of our ISA Certified Arborists.
How Much Does It All Cost?
The cost of a PHC Program will reflect the arborist’s findings from their site visit and assessment, plus an individualized plan based on your landscape needs and goals. If you have a budget, Hansen’s can work with that too. Our goal is to make sure that our clients can care for their trees and shrubs without breaking the bank.
Flexibility and individualized programs are what plant health care is all about.
